Josephine Shavon Scott

Portrait Artist

Josephine Scott is a visual artist whose work celebrates hope, faith, legacy, and remembrance through powerful portraiture. Her creative journey began with charcoal and graphite pencil, where she honed a mastery of detail, depth, and raw emotion in black and white. Over time, her passion and purpose evolved, leading her to embrace oil painting as her primary medium.

Deeply influenced by themes of identity, heritage, and Black excellence, Josephine’s art honors both ancestral legacy and modern-day narratives. With every brushstroke, she captures story, emotion, and soul—crafting portraits that speak volumes without a single word.

Originally from Talladega, Alabama, Josephine’s unique perspective is shaped by her dual passions for science and art. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Alabama State University and a Master’s in Exercise Science from Concordia University Chicago. Her scientific background informs the anatomical precision in her work, while her lived experiences bring profound emotional resonance to her portraits.

Josephine’s art extends beyond the canvas, offering soulful reflections that invite viewers to feel seen, valued, and inspired. Each piece is a celebration of life, culture, and the quiet power of authenticity. Whether she is painting historical icons or everyday faces, Josephine’s mission remains clear: to preserve and uplift through paint—one portrait at a time.
