Art in the
SCHOOLS
Talladega City Schools
For more than two decades, Heritage Hall Museum has proudly offered Arts Enrichment programs to students in the Talladega City Schools system. Over the years, this initiative has not only remained consistent but has continued to grow in both reach and impact. The program is the result of a meaningful partnership among Heritage Hall Museum and Art Center, the Talladega City Schools, the Jemison Carnegie Foundation, and generous private supporters who believe in the power of the arts to transform education.
Through this collaboration, professional teaching artists from Heritage Hall bring quality visual arts instruction directly into classrooms at Houston Elementary School, specifically targeting fourth, fifth, and sixth grades. Each year, approximately 500 students have the opportunity to actively engage in the creative process—learning fundamental art techniques, exploring diverse materials, and expressing themselves through hands-on art-making.
One of the program's most valuable components is its in-class instruction model, which ensures that art becomes a regular and integrated part of each student’s educational experience. In addition, students benefit from an ever-expanding library of video lessons, providing ongoing access to art instruction even outside the traditional classroom setting.
The culmination of the school-year-long program is the highly anticipated KidsART exhibit, held annually during June and July at Heritage Hall Museum. This celebratory exhibition showcases a curated selection of student artwork, giving young artists the opportunity to display their creations in a professional gallery setting—an empowering experience that underscores the value of their voices and visions.
Through sustained commitment and collaboration, the Heritage Hall Arts Enrichment program continues to inspire creativity, enrich learning, and affirm the importance of the arts in education for the children of Talladega.
