Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama
Artist: Saniya Sanders - Alabama School for the Blind
Heritage Hall Museum is excited to welcome this year’s Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama. The exhibit is organized and led by the UAB Vision Science Center and sponsored by many organizations throughout the state. This year, the exhibit showcases 31 pieces of art, celebrating students with visual impairments, blindness and or deaf blindness.
Over the past 37 years The Helen Keller Art Show of Alabama has honored the student’s artistic abilities and creative works. This show continues to grow significantly with a focus of making communities aware of the talents and abilities of the students. Even in a pandemic many of the students created masterpieces while receiving instruction remotely. Parents assisted when needed. Many pieces of artwork reflect upon stories and experiences students encountered while receiving instruction remotely.
This is an annual celebration of Helen Keller’s birthday and contributions to the world. The artists serve as Grand Marshals in the city-wide parade held in Tuscumbia, AL. They are recognized as VIPs the entire weekend and honored at “The Miracle Worker" play held on the grounds of Ivy Green.
