Artist's Statement & Biography: David Broughton

To walk among the Buffalo. To dine with the Indians of Grand Canyon. To cling atop Picacho Peak, to compete with mountainmen atop the Rockies, to stalk the Pronghorn Antelope on the Wyoming plains. To rob the stagecoach in Jackson Hole, to walk the streets of Tombstone, Gammons Gulch and Old Tucson, to stand amongh the Coatimundi high in the Thunder Mountains.

These are just a few of the events that drive the passion displayed in Mr. Broughton’s work. His love for the things WEST dominates his art and his special love for the Lord of the Plains can be seen in all he does. From the iron horse to a common Indian bowl, one can feel and sense his love for the simple life of the Native Americans and the western genre!

Dave Broughton is a graduate of Sam Houston University, Huntsville, TX with two degrees in art. He has had numerous one man shows and has won many awards and best of show honors; among these an award as one of the top twenty artists in Texas. His work has been in galleries and museums. After retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad where he worked as an engineer, trainmaster, and union general chairman, he and his wife decided to go west. While full timing in a motor home he used the time to absorb and study the attributes and beauty that only the west has to offer. With the mountains and desert as a background, Dave placed the Native American culture in the foreground. His love for the Indian way of life, with all its color and mystery, along with the golden era of the cowboy inspired him to guide his paint brush fully in that direction.
